Intro
In 1984, teenager Daniel LaRusso moves with his widowed mother, Lucille, from Newark to Reseda, California, where they rent an apartment in a new neighborhood and meet the handyman, Nariyoshi “Mr. Miyagi” Miyagi.
Turning Point 1
At a beach party, Daniel meets Ali Mills, a popular cheerleader, and the two begin to connect, which immediately provokes Ali’s ex-boyfriend Johnny Lawrence, the top student of the Cobra Kai dojo and leader of a gang of karate bullies.
Turning Point 2
Johnny and his friends repeatedly harass Daniel at school and around town, culminating on Halloween when Daniel splashes Johnny with a hose; Johnny and the Cobra Kai boys chase him down and beat him badly until Mr. Miyagi steps in and defeats them with ease.
Turning Point 3
After Daniel asks to be taught karate, Miyagi first declines but then takes him to Cobra Kai to negotiate peace with Johnny’s sensei, John Kreese; Kreese refuses to back down, so Miyagi proposes that Daniel enter the All-Valley Under-18 Karate Championships, and Kreese agrees to stop the bullying only if Daniel shows up to fight.
Turning Point 4
Miyagi begins training Daniel through seemingly pointless chores such as waxing cars, sanding floors, and painting fences, only to reveal that these motions have built Daniel’s muscle memory; Daniel grows frustrated, but he gradually learns discipline, balance, and confidence, while his relationship with Ali deepens.
Turning Point 5
As the tournament approaches, Daniel discovers that Johnny and the Cobra Kai are being trained to fight aggressively under Kreese’s brutal philosophy, while Daniel continues his difficult preparation with Miyagi, who teaches him that karate is for self-control and defense rather than cruelty.
Turning Point 6
At the All-Valley tournament, Daniel advances by defeating several opponents, but Johnny’s Cobra Kai teammate Bobby injures Daniel’s knee with a forbidden sweep attack ordered by Kreese, leaving Daniel barely able to continue.
Ending
Miyagi applies healing treatment, Daniel returns to the mat, and he ultimately faces Johnny in the final match; despite his injury, he uses the “crane kick” learned from Miyagi to score the winning point, earning the championship trophy while Johnny acknowledges him and Daniel celebrates with Ali and Lucille.
