Full Plot & Ending Explained
Intro
The film opens with paleontologist Alan Grant struggling to fund his Velociraptor research, while being encouraged by Ellie Sattler and Billy Brennan to keep pursuing his work. Paul and Amanda Kirby then approach him with a large payment and ask him to guide them on an aerial tour of Isla Sorna, which they claim they are authorized to take, and Grant reluctantly agrees.
Turning Point 1
Once the plane nears Isla Sorna, the Kirbys force a landing instead of a flyover, and Alan realizes he has been deceived. He is knocked unconscious, and when he wakes up, a Spinosaurus attacks the group, kills Cooper during the attempt to escape, destroys the plane, and leaves the survivors stranded on the island.
Turning Point 2
The group flees through the jungle, where the Spinosaurus kills Nash and swallows Paul’s satellite phone, and then the creature defeats a Tyrannosaurus that briefly appears, allowing the humans to escape. Later, Grant learns the truth from the Kirbys: they are divorced parents searching for their missing son Eric and Amanda’s boyfriend Ben Hildebrand, who disappeared after a parasailing accident.
Turning Point 3
While searching for Eric and Ben, the group finds Ben’s corpse hanging from the parasail near a Velociraptor nest, and they become trapped among the raptors when Billy secretly takes a Velociraptor egg to use for study. The raptors begin tracking the party, Udesky is killed, and the survivors are forced to keep moving as Grant starts to understand how dangerously intelligent the animals are.
Turning Point 4
The group eventually reaches a maintenance building, where they discover that a captured Velociraptor can be imitated using Billy’s 3D-printed larynx, allowing Grant to communicate a warning and keep the animals at bay temporarily. Soon after, Billy confesses he stole the egg for his own research, and a raptor ambush follows, leaving the group in even greater danger as they race toward the coast and try to survive repeated attacks from the Spinosaurus.
Turning Point 5
Grant manages to contact Ellie with a satellite phone, and she alerts the Marines, while the group finally finds Eric, who has survived alone by hiding, scavenging, and learning to evade the dinosaurs. As the raptors close in during the final escape, the creatures reclaim their eggs and retreat when they hear approaching helicopters, and the rescue team arrives just in time.
Ending
Grant, the Kirbys, Eric, and Billy are rescued by helicopter and leave Isla Sorna alive. The Kirbys reconcile, Eric is reunited with his mother, and Grant returns with a renewed respect for the dinosaurs and the experience he has gained on the island.
