Full Plot & Ending Explained
Intro
Detective Mark Corley of the Los Angeles Police Department bails his estranged son Trent out of jail and drives him away just as an alien invasion begins, with a blue light pulling entire crowds into ships above the city.
Turning Point 1
As Los Angeles collapses into chaos, Mark, Trent, transit operator Audrey, and a blind homeless man called Sarge survive by moving through subway tunnels while most other civilians are killed or abducted by the aliens.
Turning Point 2
The group reaches the marina after the city is destroyed, but a giant alien tanker abducts them into the flagship, where Mark searches ship corridors, meets Elaine and her transformed husband Jarrod, and learns Jarrod still has his mind inside a bio-mechanical alien body.
Turning Point 3
Elaine reveals that her pregnancy has accelerated; she gives birth to a daughter, then dies in childbirth, while Mark and Jarrod plant alien explosives in the ship’s control systems and fight the alien leader as the ship begins to fail.
Turning Point 4
Mark rescues Audrey but cannot save Trent before the aliens harvest Trent’s brain and install it into another machine body; Jarrod is killed in the final battle, and his sacrifice destroys the ship as it crashes in rural Laos.
Turning Point 5
Mark, Audrey, Sarge, and the newborn escape the wreck before the ship starts repairing itself; Sarge later dies from his wounds after the group meets Sua and his sister Kanya, who are tied to a drug cartel but become allies against aliens and rogue ex-policemen in the jungle.
Turning Point 6
While traveling through the jungle, the baby rapidly ages from an infant into a three-year-old in a single day, suggesting the alien technology has altered her physiology and may have given her unusual powers.
Ending
Mark, Audrey, Sua, and Huana make a final stand against the aliens, and Trent regains his mind after encountering his father again, so he turns on the invaders and joins the fight to help resist them.
