Intro
The Guardians are hired by the Sovereign, led by High Priestess Ayesha, to protect their valuable Anulax batteries from an interdimensional monster called the Abilisk in exchange for Nebula, who has been captured after trying to steal them.
Turning Point 1
After the team defeats the Abilisk, Rocket secretly steals several batteries for himself, which enrages the Sovereign and leads to a drone attack on the Guardians’ ship, the Milano.
Turning Point 2
As the Guardians flee, a mysterious figure destroys the Sovereign drones and reveals himself as Ego, Peter Quill’s long-lost father; he also introduces Mantis, his empathic servant, and invites Peter, Gamora, and Drax to his home planet while Rocket and Groot stay behind with Nebula.
Turning Point 3
On Ego’s living planet, Peter learns that Ego is a Celestial who has been searching for him and can teach him to use his power, but Gamora grows suspicious while Nebula escapes custody and later sets out to kill Gamora, blaming her for Thanos’s torture.
Turning Point 4
Meanwhile, Ayesha hires Yondu Udonta and his Ravager crew to capture the Guardians; they seize Rocket, but Yondu refuses to hand over Peter, causing Kraglin’s doubts and a mutiny led by Taserface, with Nebula helping the rebellion by shooting Yondu.
Turning Point 5
Peter, Gamora, Drax, and Ego travel deeper into the truth of Ego’s world, where Ego reveals that he planted the Earth-bound seed that once courted Meredith Quill, and he discloses a sinister plan to expand himself across the universe, using Peter’s Celestial heritage as the key.
Turning Point 6
After Groot, Rocket, Yondu, Kraglin, Gamora, Drax, and Mantis reunite through a chain of rescues and betrayals, the group reaches Ego’s core, where Rocket builds a bomb from the stolen batteries and Groot plants it on Ego’s brain.
Ending
Peter battles Ego using the Celestial power he has awakened, but the fight drains him once Ego’s core is destroyed; the bomb detonates, Ego dies, his planet collapses, and Yondu sacrifices himself in space to save Peter, with the Guardians mourning him as Peter later receives a new set of family bonds and a stronger team around him.
