Full Plot & Ending Explained

Intro

Four years after the zombie outbreak has devastated South Korea, former Marine Captain Jung-seok is living in Hong Kong with his brother-in-law Chul-min and other Korean refugees when they are hired by Chinese mobsters to return to the quarantined peninsula and recover a truck carrying US$20 million. Their job is supposed to be simple: go in, retrieve the money, and survive the trip back.

Turning Point 1

In the opening disaster, Jung-seok tries to evacuate his sister, Chul-min, and his young nephew Dong-hwan by ship, but he refuses to stop for a terrified family on the road because the father appears infected. Once aboard, an infected passenger triggers a zombie outbreak; Dong-hwan is bitten, Jung-seok’s sister stays with him, and Jung-seok seals the cabin to contain the infection, sacrificing them and leaving him with crushing guilt.

Turning Point 2

After landing in South Korea, Jung-seok, Chul-min, and their team locate the truck and kill the zombie driver, but the noise draws nearby infected. As they flee toward Incheon Port, they are ambushed by Unit 631, a rogue militia led by Sergeant Hwang. The convoy crashes, one team member dies in the wreck, another is killed by Hwang, Chul-min hides inside the truck, and Jung-seok escapes on foot.

Turning Point 3

Jung-seok is rescued by two sisters, the skilled driver Joon-yi and the younger Yu-jin, along with their mother Min-jung. He soon realizes that Min-jung and Yu-jin are the same mother and daughter he refused to help four years earlier, which deepens his guilt. The family’s hidden compound is revealed to be a working survival haven protected from zombies, and Jung-seok begins to cooperate with them while the militia keeps the truck.

Turning Point 4

Meanwhile, Unit 631 discovers the money in the truck and uses prisoners for brutal entertainment, forcing captives, including Chul-min, into zombie-killing games. Private Kim learns about the cash and secretly informs Captain Seo, who plans to betray the unit and escape with the money. Jung-seok and the family infiltrate the militia base, while Chul-min struggles to survive inside the prison camp and reunite with his brother-in-law.

Turning Point 5

During the escape sequence, Jung-seok and the sisters break into the base, and the militia’s internal betrayal erupts when Captain Seo turns on his own men. Zombies are unleashed across the compound, prisoners riot, and the chaos gives the family and Chul-min a chance to flee with the truck and the cash.

Ending

Jung-seok, Chul-min, Joon-yi, Min-jung, and Yu-jin escape the peninsula by boat as the militia base collapses behind them, while Sergeant Hwang is left to die amid the zombie chaos. Jung-seok finally atones for his earlier refusal to help by saving Min-jung and Yu-jin, and the survivors sail away with the money and a fragile hope for a new life.
