Full Plot & Ending Explained
Intro
In the opening, Vesemir hunts a leshen near Kaedwen’s capital, Ard Carraigh, and kills it after a brutal battle, but the creature’s dying words in an ancient elven tongue suggest it was controlled by someone else.
Turning Point 1
The story then shifts to Vesemir’s youth, when he and his friend Illyana serve as laborers for a noble household; after Vesemir helps the witcher Deglan exorcise a possessed noblewoman, Deglan pays him and inspires him to become a witcher himself.
Turning Point 2
Vesemir travels to Kaer Morhen, endures the brutal mutations and training, and grows into a cocky, highly skilled witcher who hunts monsters for coin and glory.
Turning Point 3
In the present, elf leader Filavandrel tells Vesemir that the leshen’s ancient speech implies a curse or control spell, while sorceress Tetra Gilcrest argues at court that witchers should be outlawed because they are dangerous and unnatural.
Turning Point 4
Lady Zerbst, later revealed as Illyana, secures Vesemir a royal mission to investigate the disappearing elven girls, and he joins Tetra in the hunt; they kill a basilisk and drive off the mutated elf Kitsu, but she escapes after using powerful illusions.
Turning Point 5
Following Kitsu, Vesemir and Tetra discover an abandoned elven school full of the bodies of the missing girls, exposing that the disappearances were tied to a larger scheme involving experimentation and the abuse of elven children.
Turning Point 6
They uncover that the sorcerer Deglan is connected to the conspiracy and that witchers were being used to harvest young children for mutations, while Kitsu’s mutations and the court’s political maneuvering reveal a broader plot to create more witchers and consolidate power.
Ending
Illyana reveals her true identity as Lady Zerbst and helps Vesemir and the surviving witcher recruits flee Kaer Morhen as the castle is attacked, but the escape comes at terrible cost: the witcher order is shattered, Vesemir is left to live with the loss, and the film closes by establishing the tragic near-extinction of the witchers and the emotional wound that shapes Vesemir’s future.
