Full Plot & Ending Explained

Intro

Garfield, a pampered orange tabby living with Jon Arbuckle and Odie, is kidnapped one night by Roland and Nolan and taken to an abandoned mall, where he is reunited with Vic, the street cat father who abandoned him as a kitten.

Turning Point 1

Vic is confronted by Jinx, a vindictive Persian cat who blames him for leaving her behind during a milk heist at Lactose Farms; she demands that Vic, Garfield, and Odie steal a huge quantity of milk from the heavily guarded farm to repay her for the time she spent in the pound.

Turning Point 2

The trio rides a freight train to Lactose Farms, where Vic tries to reconnect with Garfield but fails, and they meet Otto, a displaced Highland bull who asks them to help rescue his cow girlfriend Ethel from the corporate-controlled farm in exchange for helping them break in.

Turning Point 3

While planning the heist, Vic finally admits to Garfield that he had seen Jon caring for him as a kitten and chose to stay away because he believed Jon would be a better father; meanwhile, Jinx secretly tips off animal control officer Marge Malone, setting up a betrayal at the farm.

Turning Point 4

Garfield, Vic, and Odie infiltrate Lactose Farms, but Marge intercepts them and captures Garfield and Odie while Vic escapes with the milk truck, leaving the others behind and seemingly choosing the mission over his son.

Turning Point 5

In the pound, Garfield learns from other captive cats that Vic had watched over him from afar and cared about him all along; after Jon arrives and helps free Garfield and Odie, Garfield realizes he must rescue Vic from Jinx’s train-bound ambush.

Turning Point 6

Garfield and Odie storm the train, save Vic before Jinx can kill him, and then help Otto reunite with Ethel, while Jinx’s revenge scheme collapses and Roland and Nolan are left behind.

Ending

After the rescue, Garfield finally reconciles with Vic, and Vic chooses to stay in Garfield’s life by moving in with Jon, Garfield, and Odie, bringing the family together at last.
